A RAY OF SUNSHINE
Due to popular demand, we are pleased to offer the Mourgues du Gres Discovery Case, in Six Bottle Cases, as detailed below!
We are delighted to announce the return of an old friend, with the arrival of our shipment from Chateau Mourgues du Gres in Costieres de Nimes.
These wines have always been great, personal favourites of ours. Indeed, this is one of those estates, where everything about it, the location, the ambience, the people and the delectably delicious wines, are all an absolute delight!
Hidden amidst its vineyards, orchards and garrigue, sits the charming Chateau Mourgues du Gres,. Originally the agricultural estate of the Ursulines, or Order of St. Ursula, it takes its name from the Provencal word for nun, ‘Mourgues’ and the ‘Gres’, being the name for the round stones which scatter the landscape and give the wines of Costieres de Nimes their intrinsic character and freshness.
The estate is impeccably managed by Francois Collard and his wife Anne. Having worked at Chateau Lafite in Bordeaux, Francois returned to his family estate some twenty years ago, driven by a passion to maximise the potential of the diverse palate of local cepages, the mosaic of varied terroir and of course, the favourable micro-climate. Indeed, the estate’s motto, imprinted proudly over the sundial in the courtyard, pays homage to this, with the words, ‘Sine Sole Nihil’ Nothing Without Sun, although the winds here, could be said to be of equal importance. The mistral from the north helps to keep the vines healthy, aiding the domaine’s organic viticulture, whilst the southerly sea breezes bring moisture beneficial for the vegetative cycle.
From vineyard to bottle, Francois strives to create wines that offer a purity of expression. Promoting bio-diversity, the vineyards are managed organically and since 2015, sulphur has been kept to a minimum. Seeking precision at every stage, Francois crafts wines of impeccable balance and finesse, with a quality rarely found in wines at this price point. The wines of Mourgues du Gres will beguile you with their purity of fruit and Provencal charm. Their modest price will mean that you needn’t begrudge the bottles you are compelled to open with those who you feel will be oblivious to its charms, whilst its undeniable quality and finesse will make you proud to open with the most discerning critique. However, my personal recommendation is that you enjoy with those who you are glad are able to share your bubble!

3 bottles x 2020 Fleur d‘Eglantine Rosé
Produced from our beloved, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blend, which is responsible for many of the unctuously, full bodied, red wines of the Southern Rhone, one might be forgiven for expecting this rose to be overly rich and powerful. In complete contrast, however, the Fleur d’Eglantine is a deliciously delicate and vibrant rose, with fabulous freshness and finesse. It has an attractively subtle colour in the glass and a delicately floral and fragrant bouquet. Dry on the palate, with delicious red berry/strawberry and red currants, with a fine, saline minerality, balanced by a refreshing lift of acidity. Lovely focus, vibrancy and finesse. Delicious on its own and perfect with grilled fish, chicken, pork and vegetable dishes or summer salads.
