La Vie en Rosé
As we all know, unfortunately not all marriages last. What was working last year, might not be working today, and now, it’s time to part ways. However, what remains as strong today, as it ever has, is the marriage between warm summer afternoons and a glistening glass of great rosé. Well as we reach the 3rd act of summer (I know, what summer) for the 2021 season, Zeus looks to be taking a few days off and (fingers crossed) this weekend’s bank holiday is shaping up to be a beautiful one. Time to get the friends and family together and the meats sizzling on the barbeques.
So, with that in mind, we bring to you our ‘La Vie en Rosé’ special offer mixed case. A mix of some of our favourite rosés from some of our most beloved producers around France. None of these producers treat rosé as an afterthought, they craft and sculpt them with as much care and love as their whites and reds. Sadly, there are still people that believe rosé is only ever half a wine. We all know the ‘classic’ how do you make rosé joke… by mixing red and white wine. Many believe rosé is no more than a faint evocation of red wine, that is simple and fresh. However, those of you who know us, know that we have never bought into this. Rosés can showcase serious depth, complexity, and class, without sacrificing that 'moreish' drinkability synonymous with our treasured pink drink.
The rosé wines we bring to you today embody this, and you will find great breadth and range within this mixed case! A wonderful collage of styles of rosé from all over France! All have been crafted by winemakers who share a passion and drive for organic viticulture. With nutrient starved vines digging deeper, due to challenge of immense biodiversity in the vineyards, resulting in low yields, but wonderfully deep and concentrated juice in the grapes. This then acts as a base, upon which stunning rosés can be made.
Experience three luscious and classy different expressions of rosé: starting in the Loire, then diving on down to the Southern Rhone and then finishing up, in what some consider the original home of great French rosé, Provence! Which style will you love the most?

2018 Sancerre Rosé – Domaine Daniel Crochet
This 2018 Rosé has a lovely depth of colour. This is a 'definite' rose! Wonderful intense, fragrant, ripe red and orange fruits on the nose. There is a racy crispness on the palate, with elegant flavours of red berry and blood orange fruit, ginger, and subtle Pinot Noir spice. This is all held together by a tight structure and lovely refreshing and lifting acidity and minerality. There is intensity, but real restraint as well. Clean and vibrant and perfectly balanced. Delicious!
2020 Fleur ‘Eglantine Rosé – Chateau Mourgues du Grés
Produced from our beloved, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blend, that is responsible for many of the unctuously, full bodied, red wines of the Southern Rhone, one might be forgiven for expecting this rose to be overtly rich and powerful. In complete contrast however, the Fleur d’Eglantine, is a deliciously delicate and vibrant rose, with fabulous freshness and finesse. With an attractively subtle colour in the glass and a fragrant bouquet, delicately floral with red berry fruits and hints of mineral. Dry on the palate, with delicious red berry/strawberry and red currants, with fine, saline minerality, balanced by a refreshing lift of acidity. Lovely focus, vibrancy and finesse. Delicious on its own and perfect with grilled fish, chicken, pork and vegetable dishes or summer salads.
2018 Cotes de Provence Rosé ‘L'Accent’ – Domaine Clos de L’Ours
The 2018 ‘L’Accent’ rosé is an almost ethereal experience, and for us is another great example of why Provence is the motherland of high quality traditional dry rosés. The perfumed nose opens with raspberry, red grapefruit and rose petal aromas accompanied by unctuous peach and subtle dried Provencal herbs on the palate. There is a wonderful mineral line and a crisp dry acidity. Enjoy this rosé with a variety of meaty and slightly spicier dishes, but there is also more than enough to appreciate and relish simply on its own.
