Let's Get Ready To Rosé!
The temperature is on the rise and Zeus seems to be taking days off with increasing frequency, this can only mean one thing, it is time to replenish our stocks, as we are rolling into rosé season.
At this time of year, as we all know, rosé is frequently our go-to wine, in particular, when the sun is shining, friends and family are together nattering and meats are sizzling on the barbeques. The marriage between warm summer afternoons and a glistening glass of great rosé is a strong one, so to make sure you are equipped and ready to go, here is a mix of some of our long-standing, favourite rosés from some of our most beloved producers around France.
If you have been with us for a while, you will most likely have come across these Domaines and wines before. That is because none of these producers treat rosé as an afterthought, they craft and sculpt them with as much care and love as their whites and reds. They continue to be the standard-bearers, shining out amongst a sea of mass-produced, insipid and generic rosé wine. They bring us rosés that showcase serious depth, complexity, and class, without sacrificing that 'moreish' drinkability synonymous with our treasured pink drink.
Our ‘Let’s Get Ready to Rosé’ mixed case contains three luscious, unique and classy expressions of rosé: starting in the Loire, with a beautiful Pinot blend, then diving on down to the Southern Rhone and finishing up, in what some consider the original home of great French rosé, Provence! Which style will you love the most?

2018 Sancerre Rosé – Domaine Daniel Crochet
This 2018 Rosé from Daniel Crochet has a lovely depth of colour. The fruit on the nose is wonderfully fragrant and intense, with ripe red and orange fruits bursting out from the glass. There is a racy crispness on the palate, with elegant flavours of red berry and blood orange fruit, ginger, and subtle Pinot Noir spice. This is all held together by a tight structure and lovely refreshing and lifting acidity and wet stone minerality. There is intensity, but real restraint as well. Clean and vibrant and perfectly balanced. Delicious!
2020 Fleur ‘Eglantine Rosé – Chateau Mourgues du Grés
Produced from our beloved, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre blend, which is responsible for many of the unctuously, full bodied, red wines of the Southern Rhone, one might be forgiven for expecting this rose to be overly rich and powerful. In complete contrast however, the Fleur d’Eglantine is a deliciously delicate and vibrant rose, with fabulous freshness and finesse. It has an attractively subtle colour in the glass and a delicately floral and fragrant bouquet. Dry on the palate, with delicious red berry/strawberry and red currants, with a fine, saline minerality, balanced by a refreshing lift of acidity. Lovely focus, vibrancy and finesse. Delicious on its own and perfect with grilled fish, chicken, pork and vegetable dishes or summer salads.
2021 Bandol Rosé – Domaine Gros Noré
A blend of 50% Mourvedre, 40% Cinsault and 10% Grenache, this rosé really shows what great rose can be. The wonderfully floral nose is accompanied by luscious fresh orange and strawberry fruits, balanced with a subtle spiciness. The palate shows wonderful depth, focus and finesse, offering up a plethora of ripe fruits, such as peach, apricot, blood orange, cherries as well as honeysuckle. The balance here is impeccable with good concentration of fruit, plenty of brightening acidity and an abundance of gentle spices and Provencal character to add complexity and roundness to the overall picture. This is an incredible classy showing from Gros Nore. It’s pure, crisp and long, juicy and simply irresistible. There is something here for all comers, whether you identify as a regular rose drinker or not there is much to love and take away from this sumptuous offering from the humble Alain Pascal.
A perfect partner to a wide variety of different summer cuisines, as well as sushi, salmon, prawns or beautiful pan-fried scallops.
