2017 Vin de France, 'La Champine', Syrah, Jean-Michel Gerin

2017 Vin de France, 'La Champine' Viognier, Jean-Michel Gerin

Jean-Michel Gerin is one of the most highly respected producers of Cote Rote and Condrieu. His beautifully crafted Vin de France, Viognier and Syrah are superb. Produced from grapes outside the illustrious appellations, but with the same dedication and philosophy, these might be humble 'Vin de France', but certainly reflects the quality of their stable with wonderful purity of fruit, superb balance, substance and real finesse.

2013 Crozes-Hermitage 'Attirance', Domaine Les Alexandrins

Domaine Les Alexandrins is a joint venture, of three prominent figures of the northern Rhone, including Guillaume Sorrel who has recently taken over the running of his family estate from his father Marc Sorrel, with whom we have had the pleasure of representing for many years. The traditionally crafted, 2013 Crozes-Hermitage Attirans, has matured beautifully, offering wonderful secondary complexities to support the intense, black 'syrah' fruits.

2014 Beaujolais VV, Jean-Claude Lapalu

The amazingly expressive Beaujolais and Brouilly of Jean-Claude Lapalu are a world away from the inert offerings of so many of his contemporaries. In the name of 'progress', the vineyards of Beaujolais were routinely sprayed during the 1980s, to ensure they achieved maximum production. The result, of course, was the sterile, barren, landscape that can still be seen in many of the region's vineyards today and wines devoid of character and complexity. Through his dedicated organic approach, Jean-Claude has set about bringing the life back into his vineyards and with skilled, but minimal interventionist vinification produces wonderfully vibrant vins de terroir. Produced from 40-70-year-old vines, and brimming with pure fruit and mineral, this is far from a 'simple' Beaujolais.

2014 Savigny Les Beaune Blanc

2012 Savigny Aux Grands Liards

The wines of Savigny Les Beaune, continue to represent great value in Burgundy and possess a lovely minerality. Jean- Michel Giboulot's 2014 Savigny Blanc and 2012 Aux Grands Liards are both glorious. The Savigny Blanc, which was typically quite tight in its youth, has now really opened up, displaying a fabulous balance between the ripe, round, orchard fruit flavours and the flinty minerality of the terroir. The 2012 Rouge, is intense, but elegant, with fabulously pure blackberry fruit, integrated tannin, lovely mineral notes and long, fine, finish. Glorious!
