During the last decade, global Prosecco sales have more than doubled, and they continue to rise. Sadly, due to that ever-increasing demand, not all that glitters is gold, and there are consequently many disappointing examples on the market. We at Gauntleys spent a great deal of time searching for a Prosecco that we would be proud to stock, and were becoming increasingly disheartened. Thankfully, we eventually came across the wonderfully balanced Proseccos of Elusia and have never looked back. They became a mainstay of our range and a firm favourite of many of our customers in the subsequent years.

The Elusia wines represent the very best of the Italian organic winemaking art. Based in and around Jesolo, a Province of Venezia in Veneto, North West Italy. The utmost care is given to the environment and the organically grown ‘Glera’ grapes, unencumbered by chemicals, are able to reach wonderful levels of ripeness and natural balance. In today’s market, their basic Prosecco represents excellent value for money. Many Proseccos around can either fall into the category of ‘insipidly neutral’ or ‘overly cloying’, with an over presence of sugar. The Elusia organic Prosecco confidently swerves both potential pit falls. It possesses lovely ripe fruit, with its palate evoking mouth-watering green apple and pear fruits alongside a subtle creaminess and pleasant tinge of honeydew. The mousse is fine and persistent whilst the pleasant balancing acidity gives a real lift and vibrance to the fruit. All round there is just a superb balance to this Prosecco, it is elegant, well rounded, refreshing and has a long clean finish. Perfect for all manner of occasions and social events, it works well as an appetizer and is also a fine partner to a variety of fish and vegetable dishes.

There is still no danger that the Prosecco bubble will burst any time soon. With its wonderfully clean balance and untainted purity of fruit, this family produced, organic Prosecco from Elusia helps remind us just why this style of wine became so popular in the first place. It shows that there’s more to Prosecco than just ‘affordable bubbles’. We are happy to see you again old friend!
