Toast to the Throne!
On Saturday, 6th May, we will witness the first crowning of a British monarch in the 21st century, as we welcome in King Charles III. It is a day of special significance, thus giving people and communities around the country the opportunity to come together to mark this historic occasion.
From parades and pageants, to royal-themed concerts and big street coronation lunches; there are countless ways people are choosing to make the coronation weekend special, a big weekend to remember. Regardless of the manner in which you are choosing to mark the occasion, we at Gauntley’s would like to help enhance your coronation weekend, and nothing quite screams ‘Royal Celebration’ like a glistening glass of great bubbly.
Today’s ‘Toast to the Throne’ special offer mixed case contains three incredible and unique sparkling wines from three of our favourite sparkling wine producers in the world today. Vilmart is widely regarded as the single finest grower Champagne House, the ancient house of Mestres is producing the finest Gran Reserva Cavas on earth, changing the tainted worldwide perception of what Cava can be; and the stunning natural sparkling wines of Domaine Vincendeau are some of the most exciting coming out of the Loire.
Furthermore, if you are fancying something a bit ‘grander’ to match the occasion, a couple of today’s cuvées are available in Magnum, via the links below.
These wines are experiences to savour, the type of wines you remember where you were when you drank them. What better partners could there be for this historic weekend? So, pop the cork on the celebrations in style, with many toast-worthy bottles of fantastic fizz and savour each sip, as we toast to the throne and welcome in our new king.
Make sure to have your orders in by this Tuesday the 2nd of May, to guarantee delivery before the coronation weekend! As always, all bottles are available individually, as well as part of the mixed case. Continue reading below for tasting notes on each of the wines.
Domaine Vincendeau Cremant de Loire Gold Magnum (150cl) 2019
Domaine Vincendeau is undoubtedly a new and rising star in Anjou and a true ‘golden’ discovery for us. Liv Vincendeau’s organically produced sparkling and non-sparkling cuvées are turning a lot of head and have already gained great respect from the Loire's long-standing vignerons. Liv’s ‘Loire Gold’ is a delicious brut nature crémant from the incredibly schist rich soils of Rochefort sur Loire. 100% Chenin Blanc, this is a pure, rich, mineral and elegant sparkling wine. VThe palate sings with vibrant quince, ripe apple and citrus fruits, accompanied by notes of caramel, bread crust and hazelnuts. The finish is long and clear rounded by a delightfully fine mouse and mouth-watering salinity. Far too easy to drink and simply delicious!
Vilmart Grande Reserve Magnums (150cl)
If all so called ‘Entry Level Wines’ tasted like this I feel like the world would be a much better place in general. The only wine in Laurents range that is more Pinot heavy in the blend that Chardonnay (70%-30%), and you can definitely tell. It has a wonderfully intensity on the nose and palate, but opens up with subtle flavours of biscuit, pear and cherry (clearly from the pinot). A mixture of Iris, white pepper and mineral notes follow on the palate along with a sumptuous butteriness, with toasty notes, which adds real complexity and depth. The mousse as with all of Laurents range is smooth, subtle and regular allowing it to only adds to the flavours on the palate and not take anything away, or distract.
