2017 Sauvignon Blanc – Domaine des Forges

Stephane Branchereau of Domaine des Forges is one of the most talented and highly respected producers of the wonderfully luscious, Coteaux du Layon wines. However, he also produces a range of really expressive and beautifully balanced dry white and red wines, which offer truly exceptional value! The Sauvignon has lovely fresh, crisp aromatics, and wet stone minerality. A ‘mini’ Sancerre!

2020 Sauvignon Blanc – Vini Grillo Iole

Although not an indigenous variety, the Sauvignon Blanc is in fact a speciality of the domaine and takes on a personality of its own here! Tantalizing aroma, reminiscent of a Pouilly Fume. Super intensity on the palate with hints of nettle and white pepper, fine minerality with a lovely balance of vibrant acidity. Real character and class, with a long, fine finish.

2019 Sauvignon Blanc IL – Vini Grillo Iole

Made from a selection of late harvest Sauvignon grapes and aged for longer in old casks. The colour is less straw yellow and more golden in the glass. Due to the later harvest, the more green classic notes of Sauvignon are lessened and replaced with more exotic stones fruits and rich floral nuances. The aging also imbues the wine with a backbone of spices, vanilla and toasty notes that are never excessive and simply add to the roundness and overall complexity of the wine. Although it is more structured, there remains a balancing acidic lift and freshness. As with all of Grillos wines, there is real elegance here. This is a truly delicious late harvest white.

2017 Sauvignon Blanc – Iona

This is one of the most expressive Sauvignon Blanc, that we have come across at this level. Produced from high altitude vineyards, it possesses a hint of the fruit profile of the South Africa, with a freshness and restraint reminiscent of central Loire. Fragrance of pure white grapefruit, intense tropical fruit, ripe gooseberry and fleshy kiwi fruit over-lay Iona’s distinctive herbal and floral undertone. The palate is keenly balanced showing cut green apples and lime marmalade followed by great minerality and length.

2018 Sancerre – Daniel Crochet

The vineyards of the property have an average age of 55 years and are planted in high-quality clay and limestone rich white soils and pebbles typical of the region. This is a wonderful example of a classic Sancerre. Pure, crisp aromatic fruit and wet stone minerality on the nose. Wonderful intensity on the palate. Dry, but with good depth and real intensity again, lovely racy acidity and classic mineral expression of Sancerre, yet restrained and elegant.

2018 Blanc Fume de Pouilly 'Petit F' – Michel Redde

The entry level Petit-F is a crisp, fruity Sauvignon Blanc with zesty acidity and salinity and Pouilly Fumé typicity. A lovely, simple and accessible introduction to their style. It has an enticing, pure and flinty bouquet – real Pouilly Fume character. Wonderful gras and richness on the palate with super pure, ripe, aromatic fruit and fine, flinty nuances. Lovely grapefruit/citrus acidity and persistence. Fabulous balance and a real touch of class.
