Constant-Duquesnoy

We are delighted to introduce, or ‘re-introduce’ the beautifully, refined wines of Domaine Constant- Duquesnoy, in Vinsobres.

We first worked with Gerard Constant, at the beginning of his journey, with a selection of wines from the exceptional, 2007 vintage. Gerard, a highly successful businessman, had founded the domaine with his partner, Denise Duquesnoy in 2004, when he purchased 30 acres from the renowned, Domaine Les Aussellons, in Vinsobres, thus fulfilling, a long held, ambition of becoming a vineyard owner/wine producer.

Over the years, his work had taken him to many of the world’s most famous wine regions, where he had taken every opportunity to visit vineyards and eventually studied at the University of Suze-la-Rousse and also in Burgundy. Not coming from a wine producing family, Gerard, had been free to explore far and wide, in search of the ideal vineyard, which would enable him to produce wines of the highest possible quality. Having sought the advice of leading wine producers in Burgundy, Alsace and the Rhone valley, he could immediately see the potential of these largely terraced, vineyards, on steep, south-easterly facing slopes of Vinsobres. Situated at an altitude of 250 to 400 metres, the vineyards are planted with 65% Grenache and 35% Syrah, with an average age of 30 years.

With his drive for perfection and love of great wine, he immediately gained international recognition, with Robert Parker describing the 2007 Vinsobres ‘In Fine’, as one of the greatest wines he had ever tasted from the appellation. Although we have not worked with the wines since the 2007 vintage, I have had the opportunity to taste with Gerard on many occasions over the years and have never failed to be inspired and impressed by the wonderful poise and purity of his wines. It is therefore, with immense pleasure, to be representing this domaine in the UK and we are delighted to offer the following introductory mixed case -

One x 6 bottle mixed case, containing –

2 bottles x 2017 Cotes du Rhone, So Rhon

Beautifully pure and fragrant bouquet. Delicious, ripe, juicy, blackberry fruit on the palate. Incredibly pure and vibrant. ‘a punnet of fruit in a glass’, with fine-tuned acidity. Elegant and harmonious.

2 bottles x 2016 Cotes du Rhone, Lou Cambou

From vines situated at the bottom of the slopes from Vinsobres, on limestone soils. Beautifully pure and fragrant bouquet again. More depth on the palate, with glorious, ripe, pure, fresh black and red berry fruit, lovely minerality and long, elegant finish. Fabulous!

1 bottle x 2016 Vinsobres

Produced from 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, from the mid-slope. Lovely fragrant bouquet again, with floral, violet notes. Pure, ripe, vibrant cherry fruit on the palate, combined with attractive minerality. There is more structure and puissance here. Lovely complexity and great length. A little more closed at present, I would recommend decanting.

1 bottle x 2017 Cairanne

Produced from a blend of 40% Grenache, 30% Syrah, 25% Carignan and 50% Viognier. Wonderful purity on the nose. Really expressive on the palate, with ripe red cherry, berry and blackberry fruits. Superb focus and definition here with a refined balance and lovely length on the finish.
