May Day Mixed Cases

Another welcome May bank holiday is just around the corner, giving us all an opportunity to decompress, re centre, enjoy each other and most importantly, offers a wonderful excuse to indulge. Even if just for a short period. There’s no shortage of stressful external stimuli currently, so why not block it out for a moment and enjoy some simple pleasures. So, with this in mind, as we try to do every year, we have put together a couple of May Day mixed cases to hopefully help elevate your long weekend!

This year, we have French and Italian themed mixed cases to choose from. Each mixed case showcases delicious indulgences from some of the latest and most exciting additions to our portfolio in recent years.

To ensure that you are well covered for a variety of eventualities, however you choose to spend your bank holiday, both mixed cases feature two delicious sparklings, reds and whites. All of the wines are available individually, through their links in the list of wines below, or as part of these special offer mixed cases for the bank holiday. Enjoy!

Gauntleys Mixed Wine Cases ‘Vive la France’ Six-Bottle Mixed Case

This is a Six Bottle Mixed Case containing the following wines:

1 x 2022 VDF 'Pet Nat de Liv' Zero Brut – Domaine Vincendeau - £29.90 1 x 2020 Cremant de Loire Gold – Domaine Vincendeau - £24.80 2 x 2022 Trassegum Blanc - Chateau d'Or et de Gueules - £16.00 2 x 2020 Trassegum Rouge - Chateau d'Or et de Gueules - £16.00

For our ‘Vive la France’ mixed case we open with a couple of exquisite sparkling wines from one of the natural wine making superstars of Anjou, Liv Vincendeau. Firstly, we have Liv’s delicious ‘Pet Nat’, from 60yo vines which sings with notes of quince, lemons, and apples on the palate accompanied by subtle mineral notes and a fine mousse. Following this, Liv’s signature sparkling ‘Loire God’ is a delicious brut nature crémant from the incredibly schist rich soils of Rochefort sur Loire. The palate sings with vibrant quince, ripe apple and citrus fruits, accompanied by notes of caramel, bread crust and hazelnuts. The finish is long and clear rounded by a delightfully fine mouse and mouth-watering salinity.

For the red and white, we visit one of the flagbearers of the Costieres de Nîmes, and a domaine we are thrilled to be working with again: Chateau d’Or et de Gueules. Both the Trassegum Blanc and Rouge are remarkably characterful wines crafted with precision and care. The 80% Rousanne Trassegum Blanc has a wonderfully aromatic nose filled with captivating aromas of jasmine and peach blossoms. The palate is exotic, with notes of peaches and tangerines accompanied by citrus notes, subtle spices and a gentle and enticing creaminess. The 2020 Trassegum rouge is a captivating, muscular and deep red, crafted from Syrah, Carignan and Mourvèdre. The wine is dark and full-bodied, filled to the brim with deliciously ripe stewed black fruits. However, the wine never falls into the realm of ‘too much’, there is a harmonious balance, wonderful purity and real elegance.

Gauntleys Mixed Wine Cases 'Viva l'Italia' Six-Bottle Mixed Case

This is a six botle mixed case containing the following wines:

1 x 2022 IGT Toscana Sparkling Rosé ‘Bolla Galeotta’ Syrah – Fabrizio Dionisio - £23.75 1 x 2018 Vino Spumante Classico Rosato – Baracchi - £34.20 2 x 2022 Ribolla Gialla – Grilloiole - £19.70 2 x 2019 Schioppettino di Prepotto - Grilloiole – £24.10

Our Viva l’Italia mixed case opens with two wonderfully unique and compelling sparkling rosés from Tuscany, and from two domaines who are exciting recent discoveries for us. Firstly, we have a rare 100% Syrah sparkling wine from Fabrizio Dionisio. Wild strawberries, cherry, hints of pink grapefruit and citrus soar on palate bouncing with freshness and a pleasant acidic lift, all whilst remaining softly-textured and savoury, with soothing bubbles and saline-mineral tones. Secondly, we have a beautifully clean, dry sparkling rose made from 100% Sangiovese, from Baracchi. Far from insipid, it has a very fine, compact and persistent mousse, followed by a delightfully elegant palate with lovely raspberry fruits, almonds and delicate minerality. Fabulously refined and refreshing.

For the red and the white, we have delicious native varietal offerings from Vini Grillo Iole. We have exalted the virtues of our wonderful new producer, Vini Grillo Iole many times in the last few years. There are very few domaines that capture the heart quite so completely, and Anna Muzzonlinis wines have completely enchanted both ourselves and all of those that have tasted them. With intoxicating life and fragrance, remarkable purity of fruit and alluring minerality both of these wines are absolutely delicious. Anna’s Ribolla Gialla is silky and refined, singing with super-ripe white peaches, pears and apples accompanied by subtle notes of almond. Her 2019 Schiopettino di Prepotto’s bouquet is fragrant and fruity, with notes of violets, ripe black and red berries laced with subtle hints of pepper and gentle spicey aromas reminiscent of cloves. The palate is marked by a fabulous intensity and freshness, with delineation and focus. The berry fruit from the nose delivers in spades, with mouth-wateringly ripe, crunchy red cherries, bright raspberries and blackcurrant notes.
