Domaine des Muses
Nestled in the sunlit foothills of the Valais, in the Swiss Alps, Domaine des Muses has long been a beacon of Swiss viticultural excellence. Under the thoughtful guidance of Robert Taramarcaz, the estate combines traditional methods with a masterful touch, producing wines that showcase the harmony of their stunning terroir.
The Fendant Classique 2022 is a pristine example of Swiss finesse—elegant and vibrant with delicate white flower aromas, fresh fruit, and a beautiful mineral finish. This is a wine as exhilarating and refreshing as the mountain air, perfect for unwinding after a day on the slopes, or simply a partner for a cosy evening in.
Weinrieder
Over in Austria, in the cool-climate Weinviertel region, Friedrich Rieder and his family redefine the potential of Austrian white wines. With meticulous vineyard practices, low-intervention winemaking and a philosophy rooted in respect for the land, Weinrieder crafts whites of stunning intensity and refinement.
The 2020 Grüner Veltliner ‘Klassik’ is a quintessential Austrian gem, brimming with ripe apple, quince, and just a whisper of pepper—vibrant and versatile, it pairs with everything from alpine cheeses to schnitzel. Meanwhile, the 2021 Riesling ‘Ried Bockgärten’ is pure elegance—a mineral-driven masterpiece with citrus, stone fruit, and remarkable acidity. This single-vineyard Riesling embodies the crisp, clean beauty of an Austrian winter.
Whether it’s the thrill of a day on the pistes or the comfort of a warm fire at home, these wines are the perfect companions for the season. Treat yourself to a taste of the Alps, no skis required! A toast to the joys of winter—Prost and Santé!
Ski Season Sips - Six-Bottle Mixed Case
With January in full swing, thoughts naturally turn to fresh powder, cosy chalets, and European ski escapes. Whether you’re hitting the slopes or simply dreaming of an alpine getaway, we have the perfect trio of wines to transport you to the clear, crisp alpine air. We’re delighted to present three impeccable whites from two long-standing and firm favourite estates —Domaine des Muses and Weinrieder.
This is a Six Bottle Mixed Case Containing 2x each of the following wines:
2020 Gruner Veltiner When you think of Austria, you think of Grüner Veltliner, and this is a delicious, classic example. With distinctive aromas of ripe apple, quince, and hints of peach. The rich texture is well balanced by the juicy yet lively acidity. It is fresh, vibrant, peppery and a perfect pairing for fish, seafood, and poultry as well as the traditional cuisine.
2021 Riesling ‘Ried Bockgärten’ This is stunning single vineyard Riesling with an elegant and mineral style. From the Loess/Loam Soils of the south facing ‘Ried Bockgarten’ plot, the soil here stores water very well, which results in a wonderfully fine and freshly acidic style of Riesling. The grapes were delicately picked by hand, gently pressed and them fermented and aged in cooled stainless-steel tanks to retain the clean fruit character.
The nose immediately jumps out at you’re here, mineral and fresh stone fruit and citrus notes. On the palate this is a textbook and brilliant example of a steely, mineral and straight Austrian Riesling, with some lime and citrus notes coming through as well as faint notes of apricot and peach. Whilst very well structured, the profile is harmoniously balanced again with very crisp, fresh and plush acidity and minerality. The focus, piquancy and delineation are amongst the finest you will find in this style and the persistence and length on the palate is truly breath-taking. This single vineyard wine is a classic with a wide range of fish and poultry dishes, whilst obviously perfect on its own as well. A top classically Austrian expression of Riesling!
2022 Fendant Classique A vibrant and elegant example of Fendant from the Valais. Delicious and delicate scents of white flowers (lime blossom) and fresh fruit escape from the nose. On the palate, the attack is frank and harmoniously balanced with the dense and rounded fruit flavours. There is a wonderful stoney mineral line that underpins the cuvée. Mirroring its terroir this is a white wine of great finesse that has the ability to age and develop wonderfully, whilst remaining eminently drinkable and approachable in its first few years as well.
