We start off in the north west corner of beautiful Italy, and the region of Piedmont. Here we have a truly stunning Gavi di Gavi from the three-sibling triumvirate at Tenuta Olim Bauda, determined to showcase the spoils and delights of low interventionalist winemaking in the region. This is a breathtakingly expressive and fresh dry white, boasting a stunning bouquet of floral notes and soft limey and lemony citrus notes on the palate. It is crisp and mineral leading through to a piercingly pure finish.

Following on from that we head south east to the region of Emilia Romagna, known for its elegant medieval cities, and sun-soaked Adriatic beaches. Here we visit the organically run vineyards of Roberto Mascarin and his winery San Valentino. The vineyards enjoy optimal conditions, thanks to the exposure and proximity to the Adriatic Sea. With no rot to worry about thanks to the mitigating off sea breezes, Roberto Mascarin can afford to pick late, relying on the chill of the nights to retain acidity. His Sangiovese really delivers in terms of fresh, juicy, dark-fruited flavour. It certainly has the rich full-body and classic acidity of the best from this variety, but also with accessibility to match. Great balance and well structured. Being hailed by critics such as Robert Paker and James Suckling, Roberto Mascarin is truly showing the world the high level of San Valentino.
