The Return of Sylvain’s Sacred Saint Josephs

With today’s mixed case we are celebrating the arrival of the sensational 2021 St Joseph Rouge & Blanc, from Domaines des Pierres Seches.

Saint Joseph has long been one of our most treasured regions in the Northern Rhône, and one that we feel is habitually & unjustly underappreciated. Like Cornas, somewhat understandably, St. Joseph has languished in the shadows of its illustrious neighbours, Cote Rotie and Hermitage. Whilst, as the appellation has expanded, there are undoubtedly some disappointing examples to be found, the wines from the best producers with vineyards in the heart of St. Joseph, represent some of the greatest quality to price ratio, of the northern Rhone today.

For over a decade now, the handsome and humble Sylvain Gauthier, of Domaines des Pierres Seches, has established himself as a leading light in the region. Producing lovingly crafted organic wines that showcase all of the finest qualities of great Saint Joseph, year after year.

His luscious and deep reds consistently offer up some of the most irresistibly pure expressions of Syrah imaginable. And his unique 100% Rousanne Saint Joseph Blanc, exemplifies this variety’s ability to produce some of the most sumptuous and elegant white wines in the world in the right hands.

So, it is safe to say that it has been with bated breath that we have patiently awaited the arrival of his stunning 2021s, which have now finally landed in our bond.

If you have already been exposed to Sylvain’s organic delights, then you will undoubtably need no convincing. However, if you are yet to experience the wines of Domaine des Pierres Seches, we feel confident that your taste buds will be grateful when you have. We hope you enjoy Sylvain’s Sacred Saint Josephs!
