Azienda Agricola San Valentino

San Valentino is a winery located between Rimini and San Marino, in Emilia Romagna. Its 15 hectares is run by second generation winemaker, Roberto Mascarin. In order to obtain the best from his terroir the winery transitioned to completely organic in 2009, and since 2016 has solely focused on the four grape varieties Roberto feels excel in this part of the world: Cabernet Franc, Grechetto, Sangiovese and Syrah. The vineyards enjoy optimal conditions, thanks to the exposure and proximity to the Adriatic Sea. It is this constant, mitigating breeze off the sea, that makes the most difference to the wines here. With no rot to worry about, Roberto Mascarin can afford to pick late, relying on the chill of the nights to retain acidity. The Sangiovese di Romagna Bacaia really delivers in terms of fresh, juicy, dark-fruited flavour. It certainly has the rich full-body and classic acidity of the best from this variety, but also with accessibility to match. Great balance and well structured. Being hailed by critics such as Robert Paker and James Suckling, Roberto Mascarin, is truly showing the world the high level of San Valentino.
