Domaine de Montcy
Domaine de Montcy comprises 20 hectares of vineyards in the appellation of Cheverny. It is run today by Laura Semeria.
Born in Italy where her family produced olive oil, Laura studied food science in Milan and began working in food service. She studied wine at evening school and then moved to Switzerland with her husband, where she continued to develop her career. As recently as five years ago was still travelling the globe for an international food company.
It was whilst she was expecting her second child that Laura made the life changing decision to become a wine maker. Wasting no time she began to look for a domaine producing top quality AC wines with a potential to develop sales both within France and for export and with a team in place to offer advice and guidance. It took just one year for Laura to find a domaine of her dreams, Domaine de Montcy.
The domaine was already working towards organic conversion and Laura continues this philosophy today with minimalist intervention in the vineyards and wine making process.
The straight Cheverny blanc is produced from 85% Sauvignon and 15% chardonnay and possesses wonderful fragrant aromatics, with a good body and perfect balance between mouth watering fruit and vibrant acidity. The Clos des Cendres is produced on a terroir of siliceous clay, from a blend of 50% Sauvignon and 50% Chardonnay from vines of 60-80 years of age. This is much more intense and fabulous minerality. Louis de Sauussaye is the domaine’s finest red wine, produced from 60% Pinot Noir, 15% Gamay and 25% Malbec. This has a serious structure and complexity with the silky finesse of the Pinot. All three wines possessing clear definition and purity.
