Domaine La Bouissiere
Owned and run by the thoughtful and gentle Thierry Faraval, Domaine de la Bouissiere produces some of the most elegant, yet complex wines in the Rhone valley. Often mentioned in the same breath as other legendary Gigondas estates, such as Chateau St Cosme, Thierry’s reputation speaks for itself. Alongside his Gigondas Tradition and his top Gigondas cuvee, the much sought-after ‘Font de Tonin’, a small amount of Vacqueyras is also produced and a glorious, fruit-driven, red Beaumes de Venise. All from vines planted around 60 years ago by Thierry’s father Antonin Faravel, the domaine remains one of the only ones in the Rhone to make wines from these three crus. Incredibly, and speaking volumes to Thierry’s mastery of his craft, each wine brilliantly reflects its terroir: The Gigondas, unctuous, almost Burgundian with black pepper and plums; the Vacqueyras more structured and backward - as it should be, the Beaumes de Venise, silky, gourmand, refined and simply a joy to drink. Thierry also produces a truly top tier Côtes du Rhône, made from 90% Grenache from high elevation vineyards in Beaumes du Venice. It has wonderful finesse, attractive aromatics and oozes class, with its silky palate loaded with black and red fruits, wild herbs, and warm spices. Vintage variation doesn’t seem to have any effect on the quality of wines that come from this estate, with thoughtfully crafted wines released year after year.
