Domaine Louis Robin

It may surprise some of you to learn that we have not listed any wines from Chablis for several years now. We are delighted therefore, to introduce these classically expressive wines from Domaine Louis Robin.

The domaine has been in the Robin family for eight generations and is run today by Didier Robin and his brother Thierry. Thierry spends most of his time in the vineyards, whilst Didier takes care of the vinification.

They currently have 29 ha under vine. These include 1.5 ha in Petit Chablis, 20 ha in the AC Chablis, (producing 6 ha of Vieilles Vignes from vines around 65 years old and 14 ha of straight Chablis from vines of around 30 years), and there are also three Premier Crus, Montmain, Vaucoupin and Vosgros.
The vineyards are all treated following the principles of lutte-raisonee, with great consideration to the terroir and environment.

The large, purpose-built winery is hard to miss amidst the picturesque old properties that surround it. Many of these, it would appear, belong to members of the Robin family, as Didier was keen to point out during our last visit. There is obviously no excuse for anybody being late for work! The wines undergo a temperature-controlled fermentation here, at 18-20 degrees and the malo-lactic fermentation happens naturally here and is finished before Christmas. All the wines are matured for 12 months in vat and bottled in September. The use of sulphur is kept to a minimum.

These are fabulous examples of Chablis. Very classic in style, with lovely purity, expression and definition.
