Jean-Michel Gerin

One of the acknowledged masters of the region, Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin farms 12 hectares of land in the heart of Côte-Rôtie, as well as having similar sized presence in Condrieu. The domaine is run today by Jean-Michel’s sons, Michael and Alexis, who are steadfastly committed to honouring their fathers work and legacy in the region, whilst also continuing to evolve and push the boundaries of what is possible in the appellation and with their incredible terroir. The domaine is renowned for its series of Cote Rotie, from famous sites such as ‘La Londonne’ and “La Grandes Places’. However, they also produce world class Condrieu, from two small, single vineyard plots, which possess a wonderfully clear aromatic profile with a fine balance of sumptuous, seamless fruit and a subtle minerality, which is particularly pronounced in the Les Eguets. The domaine’s style focuses on round, opulent, ripe, and generously textured wines, displaying some well-integrated new oak. Since taking over, Michael and Alexis have actively reduced the overall usage of new oak throughout the range, to achieve a clearer expression of terroir and greater finesse. They continue, vintage after vintage, to offer very classic and age worthy wines, imbuing their Syrah with an overwhelming purity and bringing out the full richness and potential of the Viognier grape. As well as their illustrious Côte Rôtie and Condrieu, Michael and Alexis also craft a couple of wonderful VDFs. Their Viognier and Syrah are superb little gems, produced from grapes outside the prestigious appellations, but with the same dedication and philosophy, these might be humble 'Vin de France', but certainly reflect the quality of their stable, with wonderful purity of fruit, superb balance, substance, and real finesse. Truly stylish wines, that offer exceptional value too!
