La Pieve
The unassuming Simone Tognetti makes impossibly good-value Chianti. The secret of his wine, lies in the extraordinary exposure of the 16 hectare vineyards: an almost perfect amphitheatre at 500 metres above sea level. The geography guarantees ripeness and alcohol, whilst the altitude preserves the acidity. The blend is a traditional Tuscan mix of Sangiovese (90%), Canaiolo (5%) and Colorino (5%), fermented in stainless and aged in cement. The 2015 Chianti is pure, accessible and representing a great value for money. Elegant and pure cherry fruit flavours lightly coat the palate, accompanied by a fresh acidic lift, depth, good structure and that ever so important, balance. Subtley mentholic and herbaceous notes come through on a pleasantly long finish.
