Mas Combarela
Situated in one of the finest locations in the Languedoc, of Terrasses du Luzac, Mas Combarella was founded by Olivier and Laure Faucon in 2016. Both originating from farming families, the couple had travelled the world, enjoying a highly successful career in marketing, when they felt the yearning to return to their agricultural roots. Indeed, it was Etienne Davodeau’s novel, “Les Ignorants” , that inspired them to follow their dreams to become vignerons.
Having studied viticulture and oenology at Beaune, Olivier gained experience working with a number of notable producers, including François Parent of the Domaine A-F Gros, in Burgundy, followed by a period with Vincent Goumard (Mas Cal Demoura), where he discovered his passion for the Terroirs of the Languedoc. Whilst continuing to develop his skills alongside other producers, the couple scoured the region, in search of vineyards with great terroirs and potential to produce wine of the highest quality, finally striking gold, in Terrasses du Luzac.
Comprising 12 ha in total, the domaine consists of three distinct parcels of vines, between the altitudes of 100 and 350 metres, with 3.5 ha at Les Combes in Arboras and a further two parcels in St. Jean-de-Fous, in Cabanis and Combarels, each with its own distinctive terroir and micro-climate. Planted with the Languedoc’s key red varieties, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, and Carignan, plus Grenache Blanc, Carignan Blanc, Vermentino and Chenin Blanc for the whites. Worked organically, these wines are real vins de terroirs, with fabulous complexity and incredible life energy and unexpected finesse.
