Rene Mure

Rouffach, enjoys a particularly good micro-climate. Situated in the Southern part of Alsace, it benefits from a greater protection from the snow and rain by the Grand Ballon – the highest summit of the Vosges and the Petit Ballon. The Clos St. Landelin is situated towards the south of the Grand Cru Vorbourg. The slopes here are extremely steep and the south facing, terraced vineyards are protected by dry-stone walls. The total area is 15 hectares, 14 of which are planted. The vineyards are all worked biologically with only organic treatments employed. The roots are very deep and take the water slowly which keeps the yields small. The grapes are hand picked to ensure careful selection and are pressed without de-stemming in a pneumatic press. Temperature controlled fermentation follows with a long contact with the lies at 8 degrees centigrade. The wines then age one year in futs where they undergo battonage. The wines settle out on their lies and are bottled without filtration. The soils of the Vorbourg are argilo calcaire. The wines produced are extremely elegant, with a good bouquet, structure and fine acidity. They offer a balance between richness and strength.
