For our mixed case this week we find ourselves in welcome but slightly unusual company! Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc are not grape varieties that one would typically associate with Gauntleys. Outside of establishing a small foothold in Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé in recent years, generally they are not the native varieties synonymous with our most treasured regions, and throughout our history, we have spent very little time in search of flagbearers for them. We have typically found ourselves far more drawn to the paths less trodden, and inspired by artisanal winemakers working magic with indigenous varieties elsewhere. However, in the assured hands of Anna Muzzonlini, these Merlot and Sauvignon cuvées that we have for you today, take on a life all of their own. There is so much charm and allure to the seamlessly balanced and refined wines from Vini Grillo Iole, and their Merlot and Sauvignon cuvées are no exceptions. With intoxicating life and fragrance, remarkable purity of fruit and alluring minerality, these are unique and exciting expressions of these illustrious varieties, that we feel you simply must experience.
