Domaine Gerard Raphet
Raphet's Beautiful Bourgognes - 6 Bottle Mixed Case
This mixed case contains 3x each of the following wines from Domaine Gerard Raphet:
2022 Aligoté
Raphet’s Aligoté is similar in style and freshness to a top Chablis. It exudes a delightful and youthful charm. It boasts a wonderful acidic lift that should allow it to evolve over the coming few years, but is incredibly approachable now. Singing with green vegetable and floral notes on the nose and vibrant citric palate with characterful salty undertones. Pure and captivating this is an attractively priced and cheerful wine.
2022 Passetoutgrain
Raphet’s Passetoutgrains is a 50/50 split of Pinot Noir and Gamay. From 30-year-old vines, crafted with indigenous yeasts and aged in old French barrels for 18 months, this is an intoxicatingly fresh and approachable red. It exudes attractive notes of red cherries, cranberries and orange rind on the nose. The palate delivers on this promise, with succulent notes of pomegranate, blood oranges and cherries on harmoniously balanced and vibrant palate. It will also age well over the coming few years, but is perfect to be drunk right now.
Early next month we will have a limited allocation of the delicious 2022 white Aligote and red Passe-Tout-Grains from Raphet arriving in our bond. As you will be aware, these are two of the more modest and often overlooked styles of wine crafted in Burgundy, and over the previous few decades they have been seen less and less. However, as today’s consumers are frequently in search of crisp, vibrant, dry whites, particularly those offering a good expression of terroir/minerality and are seeking red wines that are accessible and ready to enjoy in their youth, the Bourgogne Aligote and Passetoutgrain are being re-discovered. In contrast to the ever-escalating prices of the appellations of the Cotes d’Or, they also offer incredible value. Fortunately, there are a number of great producers, who have retained their old vine Aligote and complantation vineyards of Pinot Noir and Gamay and have continued to produce the wines with their usual uncompromising dedication and flair. Indeed, with today’s growing appetite for these gems, more and more producers, are once more, proud to showcase these wines.
