Venancio de Costa Lima

An hours drive east from Lisbon, Venancio Closta Lima is located in the village of Quinto do Anjo, to the west of Pamela and 10 km inland from Setubal. Founded by Venancio da Costa Lima in 1914, it has remained in the same family, for four generations. Today, the estate produces wines from the three designated appellations of the region, Moscatel de Setubal, the DO Palmela (Designation of Proteted Origin) and I.G. Setubal, (Protected Geographic Indication).

The wines are mainly produced from indigenous grape varieties, the Castelao for the red and Moscatel, Verdelho and Fernao Pires for the whites. Combining modern and long-standing techniques, the winery strives to produce wines which are a true representation of their origin and tradition, with a modern finesse. The exceptional quality of their exquisite Moscatel wines has brought them many international awards, including several gold medals and the accolade as the 'best Moscatel Wine of the world, for the 2009 vintage. Their table wines might be less well known but have still received many favourable reviews. The wines possess real individuality, attractive balance and incredible value too! Indeed traditionally, many examples of Castelao wines, were tight, tannic and rather rustic in style. The wines from Venancio Costa Lima are full of personality, with a purity of fruit and harmonious balance. The white wines are wonderfully ripe and aromatic, with a clean, vibrant freshness, whilst the beguilingly luscious and aromatic Moscatel wines offer an irresistible taste of decadence.
