2019 Cremant de Loire ‘Zeitlos’ - Domaine Vincendeau
As you will know Domaine Vincendeau is a recent yet radiant addition to the vintner constellation of Anjou. However, Liv Vincendeau has been garnering respect and turning heads among the established vignerons of Loire over the last few years, with her stunning organically produced sparkling and non-sparkling cuvées. In just a short span since its inception in 2014, Domaine Vincendeau has emerged as one of the most exciting producers of sparkling wine in the region.
The 2019 Zeitlos from Liv Vincendeau is absolutely stunning. 100% Chenin Blanc, from vines averaging around 45 years of age, this is one of the finest zero-brut Cremant de Loire’s you are likely to come across. Having spent almost 40 months on its lees, this is a rich, fragrant and unctuous sparkling wine that delivers on all fronts.
Opening up on the nose you are immediately enraptured by the symphony of fragrance with apricot, vineyard peach and quince in an unforgettable interplay with vermouth, ginger and aniseed. On the palate, this Crémant is a truly expressive experience. It captivates with intense minerality, juicy fruit, a hint of salt, a mouth-watering acidity. Although completely dry, the interplay between the succulent, juicy and ripe fruits and the creamy notes of ageing make this utterly irresistible. This is a family-run vineyard with a legacy spanning over 29 generations, renowned for crafting the first Champagne method sparkling wine in Spain. Coming in at 25% Macabeo, 55% Xarel.lo & 20% Parallada from 100% bush vines planted almost 60 years ago, this is one of the top cuvées from Mestres. With 9 years of lees ageing, this is an intensely creamy, medicinal, mineral and complex Cava. The palate is chock full of delicious nectarine and peach fruit, accompanied by an intense nuttiness and creaminess (pastries and bread). There is also a herbaceous and warming toasted backbone as well. The balance is truly harmonious, with a welcome mouth-watering acidic lift and a very long finish.
