2021 Côtes du Rhône Rouge

An incredibly rare 100% Syrah Côtes du Rhône, and what a treat it is! Louis first started producing this wine back in 1997, and it has since become an firm favourite of many of his clients, as well as ours! His idea was to make a Syrah-based Côtes du Rhône, unlike virtually all Côtes du Rhône on the market, which are generally made from Grenache, that was fruit-forward, rounded, dense and fresh. He unequivocally succeeded, and this is consistently up their amongst the finest CDR’s on the market today.

The Syrah from this vintage has really displayed its exceptional credentials with top quality, rich and deep fruit, magnificently intense colour and layered texture. There are mouth-watering flavours of blackcurrant, truffle, liquorice and wild raspberry on the palate, with a good backing of garrigue and sweet spice. It is a full-bodied wine with great acidity, polish and incredible refinement. The balance is beautifully harmonious and the structure and power present should allow this wine to develop for a long time to come, however it is ripe and juicy and delicious right now! Far from your typical CDR.


2020 IGP Blanc ‘Les Deux Albion’

First produced in 2017, the 2020 release of the ‘Les Deux Albion’ Blanc is produced from 40% Viognier - 20% Marsanne - 30% Picpoul - 4% Clairette – 3% Ugni blanc – 3% Bourboulenc (certainly an unusual but intriguing mix!). This is Louis’ answer to the markets increasing demand for interesting, good quality and good value Rhône white wines, and a certain passion project for Louis himself, vinified from grapes in his newly purchased Saint Martin Vineyards in Violes. The soils in St Martin have an incredibly concentration of limestone, making it a prime region for producing Southern Rhône whites, and that is reflected in the wine. There is wonderful freshness, aromatic finesse and salinity. It has a meditatative nose that one could contemplate for hours with dried Apricot, peach, marshmellow, heirloom rose, brioche and mint shining through, and the palate is no less spectacular!

The uncompromising and often self-critical Louis has said that he is extremely proud of this wine, the outcome is beautiful. Do not think twice about the ‘IGP’ on the label, simply technicality, this is a world class, exotic and unctuous white wine. It is easily paired with dishes that feature creamy sauces, white fish, and roasted pork or chicken. Picpoul brings acidity to the blend and gives this wine salinity, making it a superb choice for cooked or raw shellfish. However, honestly this just scratches the surface of what this wine could potentially accompany. Honestly, go crazy. Get creative!
