Domaine Marc Sorrel
Hermitage 'Le Greal' 2021
Le Gréal stands as the flagship wine and epitome of the estate, and regularly one of the finest and most lauded expressions of Hermitage around. Produced from 100-year old Syrah vines, cultivated organically in two of the most exceptional locations on the Hermitage hillside. The majority, 90%, is sourced from Le Méal, while the remaining portion is derived from Les Gréffieux.
The 2021 vintage deviates from convention. Unlike previous years, dating back to 2009, where the wine was crafted solely from whole bunch fruit, this year sees a 90% destemming process. As a result, it exudes a lighter presence compared to its predecessors, boasting a more vibrant, juicy, and well-balanced profile. However, a hint of the wine's distinctive spicy notes lingers, owing to the inclusion of 10% whole bunch fruit in the blend. This style harks back to the 1990s, according to Guillaume, the winemaker.
Though this iteration may differ from our beloved wines from this domaine, it offers its own delightful character. Despite its more subtle nature, it possesses remarkable aging potential, evolving and maturing gracefully over decades to come.
